University Launches Food Gifts Competition in Collaboration with the Culinary Arts Commission and Several Organizations

King Khalid University, represented by the College of Tourism and Hospitality, in collaboration with the Culinary Arts Commission and in partnership with several organizations, launched the "Food Gifts" Competition as part of its efforts to promote national tourism and transform community initiatives and ideas into entrepreneurial projects that contribute to supporting the local economy.

Dr. Reham Mashat, Dean of the College of Tourism and Hospitality at the University, explained that the competition is a distinctive initiative aimed at harnessing the creative potential of community members by transforming their ideas into innovative projects in the field of tourism food gifts. This contributes to promoting entrepreneurship and supporting local and global investment while preserving the heritage and cultural identity of the Asir Region.

Dr. Mashat added that the competition encourages participants to create distinctive tourism food gifts that can be presented to visitors and tourists, helping to showcase the region's culinary heritage in modern and appealing ways and enhancing the tourist experience by connecting visitors with the local culture through innovative products that reflect an authentic local identity.

The competition aims to develop innovative solutions for creating food gifts that preserve the region's heritage and identity and promote food tourism in Asir. It also seeks to stimulate creativity in the fields of souvenir gifts and the production of films related to food culture, in line with contemporary trends in the creative industries.

Dr. Mashat further explained that the competition features three main tracks: the Food Gifts Track, the Foodware Gifts Track, and the Food Films Track. These tracks provide participants with diverse opportunities to showcase their creative skills and compete for valuable prizes totaling SAR 45,000, in addition to other distinguished prizes.

The competition is scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 1 at the University's Exhibition and Conference Center in Al-Fara'a during the morning period.
